Tranche Traitraico - Coñaripe

This is the only section of the Sendero de Chile enabled the Region de los Rios.

Travel: Located on the shores of Lake Calafquén, is a 25-mile trail that offers travelers the opportunity to see the beauty of the surroundings and interact with Mapuche rural families, which still remain deeply rooted traditions. During the tour of the Commonwealth of Traitraico can see the farmland, volcanic slag coexisting with native forest, all set in a lovely setting, with panoramic views of the Villarrica volcano and lake Calafquén. This route offers horseback riding services, sale of handicrafts, cuisine and cultural activities Mapuche.

The path is covered by scoria 70% and 30% of bare soil with slopes ranging between 15 º and 30 º, suitable for pedestrian, bicycle or horse.

The journey has simple infrastructure, walkways, benches, perimeter fences, trash cans and signs of welcome to the Path. There is also a barbecue hut type Mapuche, which offers typical foods and crafts such as carving, weaving and basketry.

Insert in the destination Panguipulli, the tour begins in an area where the stream lñaukahüin. Crosses the old road connecting Liquiñe with Villarrica, footprint now defunct. From there you cross over an area of traditional culture of the Chilean sweet peas, after which the path enters the forest through which lava fell during the last eruption of Villarrica volcano, several centuries ago. After 30 minutes of walking in an area of slag, is the first viewpoint, from which you can see the rural landscape of the sector. In the second viewpoint we can see the waterfall that gives its name to the community.

After 1 hour of walking you reach the highest point of travel, with a panoramic view of Lake Calafquén before hitting a site formerly used as a shelter, known as Casa de Piedra. Finally you pass a sector located next to three majestic waterfalls ending in a rest area under Ulmo over a hundred years old that gives shade to the traveler.

Calafquen Lake has a beautiful beach with a natural setting surrounded by evergreen forests, volcanoes and mountains with many waterfalls.

The climate of this area is temperate rainforest with rainfall above 2,000 mm per year. At present, the circuit is conditioned to be traversed during the entire year.

The town of Traitraico was formed in 1811, by Pinera from Patagonia Argentina, currently has more than 400 people who have traditionally engaged in animal husbandry and agriculture.

Directions: Route T-95-S which connects the towns of Lican Ray Coñaripe.

From Villarrica, once you reach Lican Ray, should continue 14 miles toward Coñaripe to reach the community of Juan CARIPE of Traitraico.

From Panguipulli, once you get to Coñaripe, continue 4 km in the direction of Ray Lican northeast, reaching rural school Traitraico.

There is public transport to the start of the trail from Panguipulli and Villarrica.

Distance from the south, 37 km. from Panguipulli Route T-203, and from the north (Villarrica), 26 km. Route T-95-S.

Tips: Missed is a visit to "The Rock" typical Mapuche hut, located at the main entrance to the trail, where cultural shows are performed that allow the lifestyle Traitraico community. In the place nozzle sold crafts, textiles with natural dyes, wood carvings and culinary samples.
