The Didymo, also known as "Rock Snot"is a freshwater microalga European origin.
It is harmless to humans, but can multiply in massive blooms, changing the ecosystems of rivers, lakes and other fresh water courses, reducing fish populations and other aquatic species, and thus affecting the economic and tourist activities in the area.
Their presence in Chile was confirmed in the Lakes Region. Sernapesca Surveillance Zone declared the Futaleufu River Basin, which includes, among other measures, movement restrictions for recreational fishing gear, cleaning boats, kayaks, rafts.
