The recently created National Park offers trails Larch Coastal and unspoilt scenery, with forests of larch (here are the first larches from north to south.)
The wide variety of native species found in this area stems in large part from its history as glacier retreat. The Cordillera de la Costa, in this region was not hit by the last ice age occurred about 12,000 years ago, which, however, did affect the Andes and Central Valley. Thus, the ancient coastal forests were the place from which the various species of flora and fauna recolonized the rest of southern Chile. In addition, the diversity of habitat, age and isolation of the Coast Range have allowed the evolution of a unique assemblage of species, many of them endemic.
